§ Carbon reporting · QuickBooks

Carbon reporting from QuickBooks data.

Export your vendor spend from QuickBooks as a CSV, upload it, and get a GHG-Protocol Scope 1, 2 & 3 carbon report in under five minutes — with every emission factor cited to its source EPA, IPCC, or GHG Protocol document. No integration, no manual factor lookup, no accounting changes. From $20.

Can you calculate carbon emissions from QuickBooks?

Yes — and it's the fastest path to a defensible number. Your QuickBooks ledger already records what you spent and with whom. Spend-based carbon accounting (the GHG Protocol §7.3.2 economic-value method) maps each vendor to an emission factor expressed in kg CO₂e per dollar, then multiplies. You already have the hard part — the spend data.

The engine reads your exported CSV, classifies every line to an EPA Supply Chain (USEEIO) commodity factor, applies eGRID 2022 for electricity and EPA Hub factors for fuels, and returns a complete Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory. Refunds and credits are netted per §7.3.2; every factor is cited.

How it works — three steps

  1. 01
    Export from QuickBooks

Reports → Expenses by Vendor Summary (or Profit & Loss Detail) → export to CSV. Any file with a vendor column and an amount column works.

  2. 02
    Upload the CSV

Drop it into the carbon-draft tool. The engine auto-detects columns, encoding, decimal format, and dates, then classifies every vendor to an emission factor.

  3. 03
    Download the cited report

A GHG-Protocol Scope 1, 2 & 3 PDF with a transaction ledger, per-row confidence, and every factor traced to its source document — in under five minutes.

How accurate is it?

Spend-based estimates carry ±25–40% uncertainty at the category level — the accepted band for screening and supplier disclosure under GHG Protocol §7.3.2. That is appropriate for answering a customer questionnaire or finding your emission hotspots. It is not a substitute for a third-party-verified, activity-based inventory used in a regulatory filing. The report states which method each row used, so you and your auditor always know the confidence behind every number.

Frequently asked questions

Can you calculate carbon emissions from QuickBooks data?

Yes. Export your vendor spend as a CSV from QuickBooks (Reports → Expenses by Vendor, or the Profit & Loss detail) and upload it. The engine classifies each vendor to an EPA emission factor and returns a GHG-Protocol Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory. No accounting changes, no integrations, no manual factor lookup.

How accurate is a spend-based carbon estimate from QuickBooks?

Spend-based accounting carries ±25–40% category-level uncertainty per GHG Protocol Scope 3 Standard §7.3.2. That is the accepted accuracy band for screening, supplier-questionnaire responses, and hotspot identification. For a regulatory filing or third-party assurance, you supplement high-impact categories with activity data (gallons of fuel, kWh of electricity). The report discloses exactly which rows used which method.

Which QuickBooks report should I export?

Any report with a vendor (or description) column and an amount column works. The simplest is Reports → Expenses by Vendor Summary, exported to CSV/Excel. The Profit & Loss Detail or the Transaction List by Vendor also work. The engine auto-detects the columns, encoding, and date format.

Is a QuickBooks-based carbon report good enough for a Walmart, Microsoft, or CDP supplier questionnaire?

For most SMB supplier questionnaires (Walmart Project Gigaton, Microsoft Supplier Sustainability, CDP Supply Chain), a spend-based GHG-Protocol screening report is sufficient to respond. It gives a defensible Scope 1/2/3 number with cited factors. For a formal regulatory filing (CSRD, SEC, California SB-253) you will typically need a third-party-verified, activity-based inventory — this report is the starting point an auditor would otherwise bill you to build.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Under five minutes from CSV upload to PDF download. Pricing: Basic $20 (Scope 1 & 2), Complete $49 (adds Scope 3), Disclosure-Aligned Report $299 (transaction-level lineage, per-row confidence, CDP/SEC/CSRD framework mapping).

What makes this different from a spreadsheet of EPA factors?

Every factor in the report is cited to its source document — EPA Supply Chain GHG Emission Factors, eGRID 2022, EPA WARM v16, IPCC AR5 — by name, table, and page. You are not hand-pulling factors and hoping you used the right one; the engine applies the full EPA EEIO dataset automatically and shows its work, row by row, so a CPA or auditor can verify every number.
